A few years ago, I have been in an unfulfilling career. Since it was not the career I was meant to be in, my results were not satisfying my expectations. That caused feelings of stress and inadequacy. But it did not stop there. I started to feel fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, experiencing irritability or anger, feeling nervous, feeling a lack of energy and lying awake at night due to stress.

Effects Of An Unfulfilling Career

Did you know that three quarters of Americans experience symptoms related to stress as follows:

- 77% experience physical symptoms
- 73% experience psychological symptoms (Source: American Psychological Association study, 2007.)

Did you know that one-third of Americans feel they are living with extreme stress and about half of Americans (48%) feel that their stress has increased over the past five years. Money and work are the leading causes of stress are mentioned by three quarters of Americans.

Stress due to an unfulfilling career impacts lives in a dramatic way:

- About 50% of Americans say that stress has a negative impact on both their personal and professional lives.

- About 31% of employed adults have difficulty managing work and family responsibilities.

- Over 35% cite jobs interfering with their family or personal time as a significant source of stress.

 What is a fulfilling career really?

A fulfilling career is a way of earning income doing what you love. It energizes you. It brings you in touch with fascinating people whose company you enjoy. It is based on your life’s purpose.

The question about the purpose of life is an old one but a good one. When you know it, it gives your life a direction. The purpose in life can be accomplished by creating a mission for your life! But more to that later!

It is kind of scary that over 90% do not want to know their purpose in life. That is closely related to their fear of not being good enough and possibly be failing. As long as you do not know your purpose in life, you cannot fail…the problem however is that you end up settling for a life that is way below what you truly deserve and what you are capable of.

Many people use excuses and make up stories of why they cannot have the life they want. They blame it on everybody around them…even their own parents even when these parents were loving and caring. But let’s face it, we cannot teach our children what we have not even tried.

How can you be the role model and inspiring example to your children when you give up on yourself before you even got started? Remember Thomas Edison who went through over 1,000 attempts before he succeeded. As long as you learn something from a failed attempt you succeed! So the fear of failure is ridiculous and just an excuse for why we gave up on ourselves!

Over the last few years, I have become very interested and almost addicted to Latino/Hispanic culture.
